Mother of God: Protectress of Health
My version of the ancient icon called, “Salus Populi Romani". In 593 Pope Gregory had the Icon carried throughout Rome while praying for an end of the Black Plague. “God of healing and hope, in Jesus you meet us in our places of pain and fear. Look with mercy on those who have contracted the new virus, on any who are vulnerable, and on all who feel in danger. Through this time of global concern, by your Holy Spirit bring out the best not the worst in us. Make us more aware of our interdependence on each other, and of the strength that comes from being one body in you. Through Christ our wounded healer. Amen.” ~Rev. Sam Wells
About Kelly Latimore
I started painting icons in 2011 while I was a member of the Common Friars from 2009-2013. Our collective work was about being more connected: to ourselves, each other, our surrounding community and the land. This manifested itself as a place called “The Good Earth Farm” where we held weekly services and meals, and grew produce for our community and local food pantries. My friend, and fellow farmer, Paul often posed the question, “how do we become people who, in Jesus’s words, ‘consider the lilies of the field’?
